Today Ocer has held its inter-stream debate competitions organized on a theme “Gender, Human rights and Governance.”
The participants came from all classes apart from Senior Four candidates who were excluded from this competition as they are busy preparing for the Final National examinations.
The competitions started off at 9.00a.m with 22 teams. The participants, armed with statistics and data, made their arguments more emphatic with their righteous facial expressions, body movement and gestures. All the 22 teams exhibited great oratorical skills.
The judges for the day, came from Northern Uganda Debate Society. They were impressed by the passion and resilience exhibited by the different teams. Every speaker defended his position vehemently and teamwork was so evident.
The patron of Ocer Debate Society, Mr. Samuel Bwambale was very present and seen encouraging all the teams to do their best.
All the participants in this competition were fresh debaters. “The students participating today have not competed in any debate tournament before; in this competition, we are looking for new debaters, ‘’ said Mr. Bwambale, the debate patron.
The judges adjudged Senior Three Green as the winning team. Racheal Akot of Senior One Blue was pronounced as the Best Speaker.
Debate is one of the academic activities that gives students creative room to express what they feel. The length and breadth of knowledge that they gain through this is simply un-paralleled. Ocer has set the benchmark for conducting activities in such a way that the students not only enjoy but also learn a great deal.
