Girls urged to focus on their education
Ocer commemorates International Women’s Day under the theme: Think Equal, Build Smart, and Innovate for Change. The celebrations kicked off with a mass celebration presided over by the head teacher, Fr. John Chachu SJ.
In his homily he called on both the male students and faculty members to respect and appreciate women. At the same time, he urged the female students to focus on their education. “Parents sacrifice a lot for your education, the only way to pay back is to concentrate and excel at your studies, “he said.
The female faculty members shared experiences on how they managed to make it through school amidst different challenges. They urged the female students to focus on the future.
“Don’t allow these boys to distract your vision, you have to persevere to reach your goal, focus on one thing,” said the Ms. Angella Oketcho Anyango, the senior woman teacher.
Among the different people who attended the celebration included the alumni. The former students were happy to be back at their school. Nancy Angwech, the alumni representative and a student of Law at Gulu University urged the female students to persevere and concentrate on their studies. She implored the school administration to recurrently include women’s day celebration on the school calendar.
Students showcased different talents, some danced, maimed while others modelled different cultural wear. The Advanced Level male students engaged in an advocacy campaign pledging to promote gender equality and respect for rights of women and girls in their communities.
The day climaxed with cutting of cake and thereafter the students were treated to a musical entertainment
