Ocer celebrates remarkable performance in 2018 UCE Exams

Ocer has emerged the top performer in Gulu district in 2018 Certificate of Education (UCE) results released this week.

The school registered 61 candidates in Division one, 19 in Division 2 registering a pass rate of 76%. A total of 80 candidates sat the UCE examinations.

Vumilia Ameshinda emerged as the overall best performer with 13 aggregates. Vumilia, a former head boy and an outstanding debater, is a Congolese refugee whose education has been made possible through sponsorship by Jesuit Refugee Services. He was very delighted at the news. He intends to pursue Sciences at A’ Level (Advanced Level)

The Head teacher, Fr. John Chachu SJ described the school’s performance as “remarkable”. “This is the best performance in the history of the school,” he said.  In the past four years, Ocer has always been ranked in first position in Gulu district and second in Northern region.

At the National level, Ocer Campion Jesuit College was ranked 40th out 0f 2024 schools countrywide.

Later on in the week, the school held a thanksgiving ceremony. In attendance, was the Senior 4 class of 2018.  The students who were clad in colourful attires of different designs were all full of smiles and sang praises for their teachers for leading them to this success.

The celebration was also attended by parents, members of Parents Teachers Association (PTA) and the entire school community. The PTA chairperson, Mr. Peter Okello congratulated the students and teachers upon the wonderful performance. He reminded the people present that the beauty of Ocer’s education is not for individual glorification but society.
