CELEBRATING OF UGANDAN’S WOMEN’S DAY

Educating a Girl is educating a nation. Just like a number of other African cultures, the Acholi culture disfavours a girl child. OCJC decided to make 8th March a day of awareness to the school and community around that a girl child is to be honoured, respected, protected, and empowered. We had a morning and afternoon full of activity, a few speeches, and traditional dances. S1 and P7 girls planted a tree, to symbolize the growing importance of women in the society of Uganda. As godmothers they will take care of these trees until we can harvest fresh mangoes and oranges just in front our classroom building. It was amazing what the students organised by themselves to honour the International Woman’s Day, like a play about domestic violence with the message to respect and help mothers in the family.

VISITORS FROM CALIFORNIA/ USA: NOT FOR SALE

On Sunday the 6th March we welcomed visitors from California in OCJC. Douglas, Mark, and Dice represented the organisation NOT FOR SALE and talked to the students about the value of a human being: No human being is for sale. There is just no price tag to human life. We celebrated a great Mass together with traditional songs and dances and with our head teacher Br. Innocent, giving the homily and making sure students understood it. "God gave us the opportunity to choose, it is upon us to make our choices according to our goals", he said.

S1 STUDENTS REPORTED

Our pioneer S1 students reported on Monday, 21st February 2011 after the presidential elections.
